Colonel Peter Tang (USAVR) entered the U.S. Army, 5th Special Forces,  in 1965, Nha Trang City, Vietnam.   After the basic training, he served as a Deputy Squad Leader in the Special Operations team in Phu Quoc island.  In January 1966, he was promoted to Squad Leader and transfered to Company 461 stationed in Sector Hai Yen, Camau.  April 1966, he joined Tiger Platoon and promoted to Deputy Platoon Leader.  After a sucessful victory in Tan Hung Dong combat, he's promoted to Platoon Leader in June, 1966.  He was then transfered to Detachment B-50 in August, 1966.  Here, he established a RECON Platoon and became RECON Platoon Leader.  After then, he took a special training in RECON and Airborne.  Jan/1967 he was assigned  RECON team #8 leader and acting  RECON  Platoon Leader  with advisor SSG Jay Massey, and assistant advisor SSG Kepphat.  In August/68, his unit joined with B-56 unit to become a RECON Company, a C.C.S. unit.  At this time his team changed name to SEIKO and he was promoted to Company Commander.  Until October/1970, he was assigned to B-15 (C.C.C.) in  Kontum.  After then his unit  changed name to IOWA with advisor SSG Gunnarson and assistant advisor SGT Davis.   During this time his unit operated in HoChiMinh Trail, Laos and Cambodia.  Colonel Tang retired in March/1972 when the 5th Special Forces withdrew out of Vietnam.

In 1973, Colonel Tang  became an advisor to the CIDG unit in Long Khanh.  October 1974, he was captured by Communist (VC) and spent 8 months as a POW.  In 1990 he left Vietnam to refugee Camp in Hong Kong and stayed there until November, 1994  before settling in the U.S.  While in Hong Kong,  he volunteered to be a member of the Fire Fighter unit and later became a Unit Commander.  Additionally, he established a group of former 5th Special Forces Vietnam NUNG commandos in Hong Kong Refugee camp.

After settling in the U.S., Colonel Tang re-established the former 5th Special Forces Vietnam NUNG Commandos Association in 2001 with over 100 members.

In January 2004, Colonel Tang brought all of his members to join USV-JSC.

Colonel Tang currently serves as J4 at the National Headquarters, USV-JSC.
