Our Mission
|
Our predecessors, The United States Volunteers, serve as our inspiration. They
arose in a time of this nation's seeking the American citizen resources as they
existed and employing them when and where needed. The US Volunteers were the
strength of the US Army during the Civil War and then again during the
Spanish-American War. Most notably,
COL Theodore Roosevelt, Medal of Honor
recipient and others such as
Major General Leonard Wood,
Major General Arthur
MacArthur and many more, were US Volunteers. The nation took essentially
civilians who had some military training and raised them to meet the needs of
the United States.
That's what the United States Volunteers - Joint Services Command(USV-JSC) is
all about. We are composed of military retirees and former members of every
Service of the Armed Forces. We are disciplined, trained, loyal, patriotic,
uniformed Volunteers that serve and stand ready to serve the Department of
Defense in a "seamless" manner. We wear the uniform with modifications of the
Service in which we served. Our uniform is distinct from the Active and Reserve
Forces, but provides a "seamless" appearance. Without argument, the United
States Armed Forces' Veterans are the greatest the world has ever seen.
Currently, our Veterans are dying at the rate of 1600 daily.
Because of the War on Terrorism, our Active and Reserve brothers and sisters are
extensively committed to fighting to preserve our democratic, free society. As
a consequence, about 90% of America's Finest are buried WITHOUT
Final Military Honors.
There is a critical shortage of properly trained, experienced, uniformed
personnel to support the mission of rendering burial services other than a
uniformed member of the Service of the deceased and a "boom box" or an
electronic bugle for Taps. The USV-JSC provides flag folders, the salute
by a rifle squad, an honor guard and a Chaplain. We are a "seamless" uniformed,
dedicated, experienced, military force who tries to meet the extensive
requirements of burying our brothers and sisters in arms. We put
"Boots on Graves" as was intended by Congress before this severe shortage of
uniformed men and women arose.
Additionally, we serve as a pool of civilian, military trained, disciplined
and uniformed Volunteers with skills determined by the Secretary of Defense
to be critical, rapidly available for use in, or in support of, units of the
Armed Forces on a temporary basis to meet no-notice, or short notice,
operational requirements. We are prepared to be embeded on short notice in
military units, not as part of the military, but who possess highly required
skills that are in short supply in the Armed Forces. If you're 18 years old, an American citizen and are looking to don your uniform once again or become trained and become uniformed, we welcome you with open hearts!
Respectfully, Meet the Region Commanders for USV: Region 1 |
