Major General John W. Shaw
USAVR .
He entered the U.S. Army in
1947and later after the Korean War the U.S. Navy in Aviation
Operations. He served in the occupation Forces of Germany and Japan,
The Berlin Airlift, Korean War, Middle East, China, Lebanon, Bay of
Pigs (Cuba), Germany (during the Berlin Wall Crises), The Missile
Crises, Viet Nam with the U.S. Navy Amphibious Assault Forces (Air
Assault) serving in direct combat support of the U.S. Marines and
elements of the U.S. Army (101st Air Assault Division and 1st
Cavalry Division).
General Shaw some of the
military schools include, the
Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Warfare Schools, Uniform Military
Justice, USN Aviation Training Schools, U.S. Army Basic and Advance
Officers training and U.S. Army Aviation Command and Staff, FEMA
Courses and attended the FEMA Emergency Operations Center Management
Training Classes at San Luis Obispo and more recently the Dept. of
Homeland Defense CERT training. He completed the USAFI College Courses
while in the Service and received his college degree while attending
General Shaw for six years
served in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary as a Division Captain (0-5) in
search and Rescue. He was in direct support of the Anti -Terrorist
Teams during the Olympics in
He later served in the
California State Military Reserve under the Military Department of the
National Guard. He served as the Executive Officer 3rd
Aviation Group, Headquarters Southern Area Command as the Operations
officer, Chief of Staff, Deputy Commander and finally as the Commander
Southern Area Command a Brigadier General assignment, as a Colonel
(O-6).
Among
his military decorations and awards, he is the recipient of the
Military Order of California, The Association of the U.S. Army Region 6
Distinguished Service Award with Oak Leaf cluster, Association of the
U.S. Army Commendation plaque, California Medal of Merit with 3 Oak
Leaf Clusters and the California Commendation Medal. In 1987 he was
selected as the California National Guard Association Militia Chapter,
the 1987 Man of the Year and Awarded the U.S. Army Saber.
His present assignment in the USAVR is to
command, organize, recruit and train USV-JSC units within the 6th
Regional Command Area of Operations and to coordinate with the National
Headquarters the activities within the 6th Regional Command
to serve in Military Honors Details and Disaster Preparedness
