Katrina Relief Operations:

Following are some of the activities that the 6th Regional Command personnel are doing:

>They have provided search and rescue help (with Firefighting and Police) in
> New Orleans (under horrific conditions), Set up Field kitchens with FEMA,
> repaired old buildings for the Evacuees to live in, they have collected much
> needed supplies and made supply deliveries to the disaster area, they have
> worked with other veteran organization (such as the VFW and religious
> organizations) they have ordered 77 containers of supplies through LTC Martin
> USV and the VFW (now on the way). They have purchased goods and supplies
> out of their own pocket as we had no other source of money) for evacuees. They
> have provided Wal-Mart and Brookshires $50.00 gift cards and the support goes
> on and continues each hour and each day.Their Chaplains and their churches
> have provided a lot of spiritual and food and clothing and jobs to help to the
> evacuees. These same churches have assisted the USV-JSC 6th Regional Command
> in doing their job with donations of water, food and clothes, equipment and
> personnel. The USV- JSC 6th regional command 61st BCT has provided assistance
> to the reconstruction crews from all over the U.S.by helping to feed them.
> The 6th regional Command has made resupply missions to the affected disaster
> shelters. Much of this at the beginning was under horrific conditions but
> well organized because of their Emergency training within the 6th Regional
> Command.
>
> We learned a lot about USV-JSC 6th Regional Command Command and Control
> system.
>
> Our Churches and ministers throughout the state have been the primary source
> of help to us and to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I would like to
> mention one church, Bellaire Baptist Church and their Pastor Dr. Randy Harper
> that has helped the USV-JSC 6th regional Command considerably with disaster
> supplies and labor. Many of their church members volunteered to work with and
> help the 61st BCT and deserve a WELL DONE".
