Major
General Chung V.
Pham began
his 21 years of military career when he graduated from
the Dalat Military Academy , Vietnam
(VN) in 1954. After his graduation, he was
assigned to the mixed French and VN Airborne Group
where he served as Platoon Leader with rank 2nd LT
for two years. In 1956, he joined the VN
Marine Corps and served the Corps from 1956 to 1973.
In 1960, after
completing the 4th Basic Course at the US Marine
Corps School, Quantico, Virginia , MG Chung Pham was
ordered to Vietnam as an Infantry Officer with the
1st and 3rd VN Marine Corps Battalions
where he served as Combat Platoon Leader and Rifle Company
Commander. In
1963, he was sent to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, USA
where he attended the Unconventional Warfare School . He
graduated with honors and returned to Vietnam in 1965 and
continued with advanced training at the Advanced Command and
General Staff at Dalat Military
University. After then he was assigned 6th
VNMC Battalion Commander, rank Major
from 1966 to 1968, and later on he served as a Commanding
Officer of the VN Marine Corps Training Center from 1968 to
1970.
MG Chung Pham
became Lieutenant Colonel in
1968. He was assigned 369th VNMC Brigade
Commander from 1970 to 1972. While commanding the
369th Brigade in front line combat, he was promoted
to the rank of full COL in 1971 and in April 1972 he'd
successfully halted the NVA advance at My Chanh river, the last ARVN defense line in
the NVA crossing-the-DMZ Easter Offensive. In late 1972, he was ordered to
the VN Marine Corps Division Headquarters where he served as Chief
of Staff / Forward from 1972 to 1973.
In 1973, after
the Peace Treaty was signed in Paris, MG Chung Pham was
ordered to Quang Nam Province by
President Nguyen Van Thieu, where he served as Province
Chief from 1973 to 1975.
During this time, he also served as the Commander
of Territory Subdivision Quang Nam
until the fall of South Vietnam , 1975.
MG Chung Pham and
his family later came to the US as political refugees.
After his settlement in the US, MG Pham became nationalized US
citizen and worked 17 years in the private industry. He
retired with Huhges Aircaft Co. after spending 12 years with
the company. M
G Pham is now living with his family in Southern
California. At
the age of 74, he enjoyed serving the USAVR as a volunteer
with a strong desire to serve his adopted country. He hopes to express
his gratitude and appreciation to the US Veterans by
performing the final MHD to the deceased veterans, especially
to those who had served the Vietnam War.
