Our Mission
"Boots on Graves"
"It is our national obligation to demonstrate the
country's gratitude to those who
in times of war and peace have faithfully defended our country."
(Department of Defense Report to Congress. Military Funeral Honors for
Veterans, section 567 of the Strom Thurmond National Defense Authorization Act
in Fiscal Year 1999.)
The
United States
Volunteers Joint Services Command (USV-JSC)
provides flag folders, the salute by a rifle squad, an honor guard and a
Chaplain. We are a "seamless" uniformed, dedicated, experienced, military force
who tries to meet the extensive requirements of burying our brothers and sisters
in arms. We put
"Boots on Graves" as was intended by Congress before this severe shortage of
uniformed men and women arose.
WE NEED A FEW GOOD MEN AND WOMEN, RETIRED MILITARY OR
CIVILIAN who want to make a difference!
Military Honor units are forming in every major city
situated close to National Cemeteries.
Each day, 1600 veterans pass on. Due to lack of
military honor units available, some 80-90% of our nation's heroes are
buried without the honors due to them. The United States Volunteers were
re-organized by a group of retired military men and women who made this mission,
their mission - "Boots on Graves."
The United States Volunteers are active. Unit members are encouraged
to complete three courses of instruction, Action Officers Course, FEMA Emergency
Services, and Managers Courses. United States Volunteer Chaplains, retired
Chaplains and clergy members are also encouraged to be trained through the
Chaplains Training Programs and Emergency Services programs.
No willing and able volunteer is TOO OLD to join this wonderful group of
volunteers. The United States Volunteers is looking for leadership.
Retired military officers; retired police and fire department officers; retired
clergy; and retired professionals are welcomed! Everyone is trained to be
a part of a military honors unit. Everyone has the experience of being
there for a fallen veteran and their family members to comfort and to honor them
for their service to this nation.
The President asked the citizens of the United States to volunteer for duty with
civilian military style volunteer organizations. The United States
Volunteers Joint Services Command (USV-JSC) qualifies as such an
organization.
Organized as a Non-Profit Exempt organization, the USV-JSC is seeking national
recognition by the Department of Defense, the Veterans Affairs, and by civic and
religious groups as the premier organization that raises up and trains men and
women to do military honors.

Background
The Department of Defense recognizes the importance of paying final
tribute on behalf of a grateful nation to honor comrades in arms. The
sacrifices of our nation's veterans deserve an appropriate level of recognition.
For many veterans and their families, military honors at a veteran's funeral are a
very important final tribute for those who have served the nation.
LT General Allen A. Baumann, National Commanding General of the
United States
Volunteers Joint Services Command recognized that only 10% of our veterans are
receiving proper military honors at graveside and he challenged retired military
men and women to make a difference by
organizing a national retired military and civilian force, including
retired military and civilian chaplains, with one mission in mind -- "Boots on Graves."
"There is dignity that...needs to be present for the family of the departed
military members when honors are rendered." Honorable Rudy de Leon, Under
Secretary of State (Nov. 17, 1998)
